Meet the SLPeeps – Guess and win! EDITED WITH ANSWERS

Thank you to everyone that submitted their picture and facts for the game. I have had an awesome time looking at everyone’s pictures and learning a little more about all of you. Now for the explanation. The childhood pic will be posted with the five facts; the object of the game is to match the childhood pic with the corresponding SLPeep.

THE PRIZES – Yes, I said prizes, as in plural. I am happy to say that I have had 2 fabulous prizes donated for the winner of the game. The first is an app from @VerballyApp and the second is a gift certificate to @LessonPix !! I’d like to thank them for their generous donations and I encourage everyone to explore their products. Personally I can’t wait to get an iPad so I can try all the iPad only apps. In addition there is also a prize of a pair of beaded earrings.

The Winner will be the person who identifies the most correct SLPeeps by Friday evening (winner announced Saturday Feb 11.) Good luck everyone!

Please match the following SLPeeps (and honorary SLPeeps) with the childhood photos below. I have provided a link to each twitter page so you can get hints from their avatar (if you need help) and also so you can follow any that you are not currently following. I am hoping that this game will be fun…it will definitely be challenging since we have 26 participants!! Let’s MEET THE SLPEEPS!!!! (I totally did a ring announcer voice when I typed that.)

***Guesses in the following format please: SLPeep #30 is @ndnspeechmom

Meet the SLPeeps!

As I hope most of you know, I am a Speech Pathologist and an avid twitter user.  On twitter there is an active group called the SLPeeps. There is also another group calledthe  SLPs2B. (I hope I got the acronym correct.)  Not so long ago when there were not many of us on “the twittah” it was easier to keep track of everyone; from where they were located, to personal interests, areas of professional expertise, etc. etc.  Now that we have had a recent influx of SLPeeps I find myself losing track of everyone.

Previously we played a SLPgame where we guessed each others accents while reading the rainbow passage.  It was fun (well I thought it was fun) and several participated.  I have an idea for a new game which will allow us to learn more about each other, both the original and the new members.

If all interested SLPeeps (and SLP2B) would please email a childhood (baby through high school) picture of themselves along with 5 fun facts to ndnspeechmom@gmail.com they can be part of the game.  The facts can be anything from fav food, origin, area of professional interest, professional accomplishments, and fun random personal factoids.

The idea of the game is to guess which twitter handle goes with which pic/fun facts.

I will be posting the game on friday for guesses and I will try think of a prize.  Please play!! You have until friday morning to email me your entry, and those entered can still guess.

Example:

1)raised on a reservation in Canada 2) fav show is Criminal Minds 3) works with First Nation children 4) livetweeted through her last labour and delivery 5) loves bacon

Greetings and Salutations

I laugh when people think of my title as an intellectual or fancy way of saying hello. I got that line from Charlotte’s Web (still love that book.)  What was your favourite book as a child? Mine was Morris the Moose Goes to School.  Clearly I have always been a bit of a bookworm, and it is something that I am trying to encourage in my children.

Thankfully it is working, they love to be read to and to be read to.  I admit my little speechie heart beats a little faster when my Cielo asks if we can “practice my sounds.”  She just loves the Jolly Phonics program she is learning in Kindergarten.

Yesterday I had a great day, actually I had so much good fortune I probably should have bought a lottery ticket.  I started off my day with a meeting with my Education Director at work.  That went well and I was off to print copies of all the assessments I have done so far this year for filing in central office.  I stopped at the IT department to inquire if I could have my (crappy old) laptop connected to the wireless printer.  He tried but apparently my computer had no CD rom drive and other assorted “ailments.” This came as no surprise to me as often it takes multiple attempts to even turn on; sometimes I even get a “NO OPERATING SYSTEM DETECTED” error message (that can’t be good.)  My Ed Dir came to give me a copy of the agenda for Friday…they started talking about my laptop and I ended up leaving the room with a brand new work laptop.  It is not mine to keep, but as a contracted employee I do not usually get employee perks so I was tickled. (Lucky thing #1)

Then I went for lunch with a group of area SLPs.  None of us have many colleagues so we have taken it upon ourselves to network independently.  It was great fun and I enjoyed telling them about twitter.  They thought I knew a lot of people online, and I guess I do. (Good thing #2)

I finished up at work and then grabbed myself a Tim Horton’s.  Last stop of the day was for gas at a First Nations gas station (tax free fuel.) When I arrived home my husband had a delicious mexican meal all ready for us. (Lucky thing #3)

Later on in the evening I got the news that we may be getting a Christmas Bonus from the rez this year. (Fortunate thing #4)  Later on my dad arrived with some early Christmas gifts. (Sweet thing #5)

Much later I got a phone call from the gas station.  I won their nightly Christmas draw and won a $100 gift certificate for their store! Hello? Free gas? Holla!! (awesome thing #6)

TOTALLY PUMPED FOR TODAY! Bring it universe!

With June 1st Comes the End of Speech & Hearing Month

This year I tried to spread the Speak Well, Hear Well, Live Well message for Speech & Hearing Month.

I put up bulletin boards and signs in my schools (and at an area hospital)…

ndnspeechmom strikes again

From a narrow hallway comes a cheerful message

I handed out treats at Needs Assessment meetings at my different schools (and to my local hospital)…

Speak! Hear! Live! (please read that in a Snap! Crackle! Pop! manner)

Chocolatey Speechie Goodness

Caffeine?? Holla atcha girl!

I also gave thank-you gift bags to the 6 Special Education teachers that I work with regularly. (They loved all their CASLPA and SASLPA swag.)  A special ndnspeechmom thank you goes out to CASLPA.  Having so many wonderful resources available online made it easy to spread the SpeakHearLive message.  I continually feel fortunate to belong to such a great professional organization.

In addition I tweeted, facebooked, sponsored a giveaway on my blog and generally brought it up in conversation whenever possible.

Mad swag yo

If you call me a Suzie I will throat punch you.
