SLPeep Scavenger Hunt!

Greetings fellow speech lovers and my audiology lovelies! I’ve been gone awhile, busy busy as I’m sure you all are but NATURALLY we have to do something for Speech and Hearing Month.  This is open to all! (SLPeeps, AudPeeps, SLP and AUD 2B, organizations, businesses…)

I present….the SLPeep (and AudPeep) Scavenger hunt! It is similiar to a photo of the day (although some entries may not be photos) and allows the option for participants to “catch up” if they fall behind on posts.  There is an opportunity to enter 30 times, but each entry has to include @ndnspeechmom on twitter so I will be able to find them easily.  (Entries can be in the form of pics, links or informative tweets.) Prizes are TBA but I think there will be 3 prizes at least.

Be creative; use the 30 topics as inspiration for your entries.  It is always fun to see all the entries, I am looking forward to getting new ideas for apps, tx and resources.  I hope quite a few of you will enter, it will be awesome I promise! As always, businesses and app developers are welcome to enter and build relationships with the SLPeeps and the AudPeeps…we are a friendly bunch!

Happy May Month everyone.  Watch the blog for recaps of entries…and enjoy the ideas and information.

Slanguage…Fo Shizzle

Have you checked gizoogle? I entered ndnspeechmom.com into the search and found out what my blog would look like if I spoke slanguage like Snoop Dogg.

I am seriously amused. My name was even changed to ndnrapmom

The nerdy part of me thinks this is brilliant. The other part of me just thinks it feels good to be a gangsta. (There is quite a bit of foul colorful language generated by this website. It is not suitable for children.)

ASHA 2012 Ndnspeechmom Style ~updated

Ok my fellow SLPeeps, I’m almost finished being jealous of everyone in Atlanta. As many of you know I love contests so I have one for those of you lucky enough to be there.

I would like to encourage you all to visit the SLPeeps vendors at their exhibit booths such as; Pediastaff, LessonPix, SuperDuper…and I would also like to see what I am missing.  I WANT TO SEE YOUR ASHA PICS!!

To enter tweet me @ndnspeechmom a pic of one of the SLPeep Exhibit Booths (one entry per pic.) There are SEVERAL SLPeep booths so visit them all and get multiple entries OR just tweet me your general ASHA12 pics.  Please?

The prize is a pair of handmade earrings made by @meabfly. They will be shipped to you directly after a winner is chosen on Monday. Feel free to post pics when the convention is over (like while you wait in the airport.)  The winner will be able to get the pair of their choice but I guarantee it will be difficult to choose!!! (To my unicorns…aka male SLPeeps…these would also make a lovely gift.)

See more of @meabfly ‘s work on etsy or on Facebook

I own SEVERAL pairs of her earrings and I highly recommend them. Tweet on!

Cielo vs Bossy R

Last week my Cielo was quite sick and missed several days of school. She tried to go on Friday but the teacher called before 10 because Skye kept falling asleep at her desk. She came home with all her work she missed and we have been working on it.

The crafts, poems and reading were all easy but she was having difficulty with the Bossy R worksheets and song. (Yes there is a song and I had to sing)

I decided to get speechie with her so I made these Bossy R puppets. She loved them and she totally has it now. Hopefully her teacher gets a kick out of the puppets because Skye wants to take them to school to show her.  I’m so proud and happy.

They are totally easy to make; just letters on Popsicle sticks.

The First Rule of Book Club is…imagine I made a Fight Club reference that was both clever & amusing

I have been an avid reader of The Bloggess a.k.a. Jenny Lawson for quite some time.  When I was up late struggling with breastfeeding I felt like I had found the funniest woman ever.  As time went on I continued to read her blog, follow her tweets, plan for the zombie apocalypse and occasionally shout WOLVERINES!! into crowds.  (Bloggess readers get those references.)

I was excited that she was writing a book and knew that I would have to read it.

I still want a “real” copy

I told myself to wait until my work craziness had settled…and that time is here.  I have a copy of Let’s Pretend This Never Happened on my iPad as I type and I have already devoured several chapters.  Immediately after clicking “buy” I tweeted excitedly about it and an idea was born.  SLPEEP BOOK CLUB! Basically we will all read the book and chat about it (keeping spoilers to a minimum) with the hashtag #bloggessbook while we bask in the general awesomeness that is The Bloggess.  It is going to be amazing…trust me.  Don’t feel you can’t participate if you cannot read it immediately.  Trust me, I’d be willing to  chat about the book at any time.

So, hit up your local bookstore…download a copy…or just reread the one you already have and join us!
